EKM founder inspiring young entrepreneurs

EKM’s own Antony Chesworth has been delivering motivational talks and inspiring the next generation of business leaders as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Company founder Antony, who was once named Daily Mail Entrepreneur of the Year, shared personal experiences, drawing on his own story building EKM from a back-bedroom outfit to a multimillion pound success story.

Visiting Hull, voted the most entrepreneurial city and sitting at the beating heart of the UK’s GEW movement, Antony was invited to speak to young people about running their own business as a viable career choice. He delivered a similarly upbeat talk to Manchester’s Smarter Business Tech Live.

It’s all part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which takes place in 160 countries and encourages individuals to consider starting their own business, allowing them to network with the startup community, meet mentors and explore their ideas.

“My message is simple,” says Antony. “For everyone who believes they have a great idea, I tell them there is no perfect time to start, no hidden secret to discover, instead you just have to get off your backside and do it!

“I think anyone can start their own business. And the great thing about EKM is that we’re able to give people the tools to do it so we see it all happening first-hand.

“Our software now powers £1bn of sales around the world. We’ve got really big customers, but we also hear all the time from little one- or two-person operations who have been able to find a market for their products because we gave them access to a global customer base and the means to sell to them.”

Antony has big ambitions for EKM. The company currently employs 80 and recently moved into a new £3.5m purpose built HQ, which has been designed to accomodate future growth.

“None of this would have happened if I hadn’t put in the hard work,” says Antony, “and that’s true of all great business success stories.

“It’s an absolutely fantastic way to make a living. I have met many fascinating people, I’ve traveled the world, I’ve built a company I’m immensely proud of and been able to provide employment for a team of incredible individuals.”

“I would absolutely encourage everyone to consider entrepreneurship as a career option.”

Hull City Youth Enterprise Manager Charles Cracknell adds, “Antony again inspired the audience of 210 secondary school pupils at Hull Kingston Rovers ground with his enterprising journey and making it clear that anyone can be enterprising and with the right support they can realise their dreams and aspirations and Hull is pleased to have such an inspirational champion.”
