EKM opens Fulwood offices with family fun day
A beautiful summer’s day greeted 150 EKM employees, friends and their families as we officially opened our new Fulwood office.
The building measures 23,500 sq ft across three floors and took almost four years and £3.5m to complete, and will house our company operations which were previously based in Leyland and Darwen.
The official opening was marked by a family fun day, including mouth-watering barbecue, Disney-themed bouncy castle, hotly contested miniature golf and face painting.
Guests were also treated to a guided tour of the new facilities, which included a look inside the various workspaces, the LED-lit reception area, an expansive new kitchen and dining area, and of course, the giant slide which takes excited kids and grinning grown-ups alike from the top to the ground floor.
There’s also a floor which will soon house a gym, and a fully-equipped auditorium which will be used for training seminars and will be available to hire to other local businesses.
Sharon Snape, of Blackburn-based Altitude Interiors, was the creative mind behind the interior design.
She explained: “The brief was to make this the coolest workplace in Lancashire, and I think we’ve achieved that!
“We’ve gone for an individual look in each of the areas. There’s a woodland theme downstairs and a more industrial look, with exposed lighting and trunking upstairs.
“The common theme is bringing people together, so there’s lots of open spaces and glass partitions.”
EKM first acquired the site in 2013, and it’s been a long (and often difficult) process, but Antony is pleased with the result.
EKM founder Antony Chesworth said: “For too long, we’d been two teams and two cultures. Now, walking around, it’s amazing to see the hive of activity. It’s great to see everyone working together, in the kitchen eating together and playing together.”
Of the slide, he says: “It’s a bit of fun. We don’t want business to be boring, and you can’t go down the slide without a big smile on your face. If your staff love what they do, they’ll love doing it and get better at it.”
The new office houses 85 staff, though there’s capacity for 250, a demonstration of EKM’s ambitions.
“These are world-class facilities for our world-class team. We’ve taken inspiration from Google and Facebook, because we want people to think of us in those terms.
“We’re dreaming big,” says Antony. “Why not?”
